FOR DEPARTMENTAL OFFICERS ONLY 30th September, 2005 F.No. 450/108/2004-Cus.IV Government of India Ministry of Finance Department of Revenue Central Board of Excise and Customs Subject: Import of metal scrap from Bandar Abbas, Iran- regarding The undersigned is directed to inform that DGFT has issued a Public Notice No.53/2004-09, dated 19.09.2005 providing that import of scrap will be allowed only in shredded form from the ports listed in Annexure-II to Appendix-V of the Handbook of Procedures, Volume-1, 2004-09. Only one port i.e. Bandar Abbas, Iran has been mentioned in the Annexure-II. 2. Bandar Abbas, Iran has been observed as a sensitive port as far as import of unshredded scrap is concerned. Most of the explosives, arms and ammunition detected in recent months at various customs locations were part of scrap shipped from Bandar Abba. 3. In view of above, you are requested to keep a watch on consignments shipped from ports in the vicinity of Bandar Abbas, Iran to ascertain whether similar supplies are now diverted through these ports. 4. All the field formations under your jurisdiction may be suitably directed. 5. The feedback, if any, may be sent to the Board.
